INTERESTED IN TAKING
A TAIJIQUAN CLASS?
Frequently Asked Questions
Classes have already started. Is it too late to join?
No. You can still join. You simply learn the set from
that point. The moves taught from previous classes can be learned through
repetition. Each class usually reviews the set from the very first move
to what has been taught thus far. Also, a new beginner class will usually
start again when the class you are in finishes the set. Just do the best
you can. We don't compete against each other, and there are no tests.
There are also other classes scheduled throughout
the week. On Friday from 12 pm to 1 pm we offer Tea & Tai Chi
at the Montgomery Center, where members can ask for extra help on specific
moves.
I
would like to watch or try a class first. Is that okay?
Yes. We encourage prospective students to visit our center.
While you are there, please feel free to ask questions and enjoy some
hot tea. You may also attend one class for free. Please call (334) 832-1907or
email us at alabama@taoist.org
for more information.
What
if I miss a class?
That's fine. We all miss class from time to time. Each
class usually reviews the set from the very first move to what has been
taught thus far. There are also other classes scheduled
throughout the week. On Friday from 12 pm to 1 pm we offer Tea &
Tai Chi at the Montgomery Center, where members can ask for extra
help on specific moves and individual attention from instructors.
What
should I wear?
Wear comfortable, loose clothing (like you might wear
for aerobics) and flat-soled shoes. When new members register, they are
given a TAOIST TAI CHI ™
T-shirt that can be worn during practice.
How
do I register for a class?
You can register and pay your dues when you attend your first class. Try
to arrive 15 minutes before the class starts. If you're running late,
simply join in and see your teacher about registering during one of the
breaks (unless you have special health needs that your instructor should
know about. If so, talk to your instructor before joining in).
What
if I have a health condition?
Of course always check with your physician before engaging
in any new exercise. The TAOIST TAI CHI ™
internal art of taijiquan is a gentle internal art that emphasizes relaxation,
stretching, health improvement and stress reduction. People of all ages
can learn and practice taijiquan. If you have health concerns, please
inform your teacher before class. We need to know about health conditions
so that your needs can be met.
How much
does it cost?
The Society depends on contributions from its members,
given as voluntary donations. Information on membership may be obtained
by calling (334) 832-1907or emailing us at alabama@taoist.org.
